Like many of you, I’m sure, I don’t quite understand the war that is tearing Syria—and more notably, the Syrian PEOPLE, apart.

But I am a mother. And I do understand what it is like to fear for your child’s life—not from the threat of war, thankfully, but still, as a mom I know what it is like to have your heart walking around in a dangerous world where anything can happen, and where bad things do happen to good people. So, as I’ve forced myself to read stories, look at pictures, and watch videos of families and children being killed and made homeless in this Syrian crisis, I have looked at these hard things with a mother’s heart.

And with a heart that knows that our Heavenly Father created and loves each of these precious lives as much as He loves mine and my children’s.

When I saw the above video, it brought home two powerful things to me:

1) Life is precious. A mother lay near dying, and doctors perform surgery on her anyway, desperate to save the life that lives inside her. Both their lives are precious, and they save the one that is in the most jeapordy first. I’ve no doubt the mother would have wanted it that way.

2) There is always light in the darkness. Look at these medical professionals, never giving up, working in primitive conditions, desperate to save each life. They too are in a war-torn city. They are good guys in a place where the bad guys are winning. And yet the work on. They fight for good.

Friends, please watch the video if you haven’t already. Please see the light in the dark and delight at this child’s newborn cry. Watch these heroes tirelessly work to bring a baby with no heartbeat to life.

And you will see why they fight, and why we must pray and give to help these precious people.

Because, they are precious in HIS sight.
