Jennifer Garner Tried to Surprise Her Son at His 7th Birthday Party & It Was an Epic Fail

Jennifer Garner

Stars, they’re just like us! Although, few prove it better than Jennifer Garner.

The 46-year-old actress took to Instagram last week to share a surprise she had planned for her son Samuel’s 7th birthday party.

Garner hosted the How to Train Your Dragon themed bash at her Palisades home, complete with a cake featuring the movie’s beloved dragon, Toothless.

When it came time to blow out the candles, Garner excitedly emerged decked out in a full costume of the movie’s female viking warrior, Astrid. Wearing fur boots and a matching shawl, Garner nailed the costume with leather armor and perfectly placed blue face paint. She exuded the animated character who is voiced by America Ferrera.

But Samuel was less than impressed.

Garner took to Instagram with her Berk getup, sharing her son’s pure embarrassment, and reminding us that even celebrities can’t win their kids’ approval.

“Well, guess what. It turns out seven is the age my kid stops thinking it’s cool when I dress up for the party,” Garner poked fun before adding hashtags that read “youngest child,” “first eye roll,” and “anyone need an Astrid?”

Though Samuel was not having his mom’s on-theme outfit, America Ferrera was ALL about Garner’s picture-perfect costume.

“Ahhhh!!!! Yeeeeessss!!! AMAZING @jennifergarner as ASTRID!!” Ferrera wrote with Garner’s post on her Instagram Story.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World hit theaters February 22nd. It’s the third in the series featuring all of our favorite characters from Berk including Hiccup, Astrid, Toothless, and all of their viking warrior pals.
