Kristen Bell Gives Update on Husband Dax Shepard’s Relapse After 16 Years of Sobriety

Kristen Bell opened up to Ellen Degeneres on Wednesday about hubby Dax Shepard’s recovery following his recent relapse with painkillers after 16 years of sobriety.

The celebrity couple has been open and honest with fans through the highs and lows of their life over the years, and this situation appears to be no different.

Last month, Shepard revealed on his popular podcast, “Armchair Expert,” that he had relapsed after 16 years. The “Bless This Mess” star said a motorcycle accident earlier this year sparked his return to drug abuse.

Bell gave an update on her husband’s recovery during her appearance on “Ellen” Wednesday.

“He is actually doing really great,” Bell said with optimism. “I mean, look, you know, everybody is up against their own demons. Sometimes it’s anxiety and depression, sometimes it’s substance abuse.”

Bell says ultimately what she’s the most grateful for is that Dax was able to tell her that he was abusing drugs. The whole experience has forced them to realize that they need a “stronger plan” when it comes to his accountability.

Bell says one of the main things she loves and appreciates about her husband is that although he’s struggled with drug and alcohol addiction in the past, “he’s also addicted to growth.”

“He’s addicted to evolving,” Bell said. “He was like, ‘I don’t want to risk this family and I did, so let’s put new things in place to make sure it doesn’t happen again.’”

Bell added that she and Shepard are returning to couple’s therapy.

“I will continue to stand by him because he’s very, very worth it,” she said earnestly.
