An entire generation of 90’s kids are all up in our feelings this week thanks to an unexpected video starring none other than Steve, from Blue’s Clues.
That’s right! Nearly two decades after his “abrupt” exit from the show in 2002, Steve Burns, 47, appeared in a video Tuesday posted by Nick Jr. in honor of the 25th anniversary of Blue’s Clues.
Sporting his signature green striped polo and thinking cap, Steve addressed his kids-turned-grown-up viewers about that time he went off to college, and what he’s been up to since.
It’s the heart-to-heart we didn’t know we needed.

“You remember how when we were younger we used to run around and hang out with Blue and find clues and talk to Mr. Salt and freak out about the mail and do all the fun stuff, and then one day I was like, ‘Oh hey, guess what? Big news . . . I’m leaving. This is my brother, Joe, he’s your new best friend,’ and then I got on a bus and I left and we didn’t see each other for, like, a really long time?” Steve asks in character. “Can we just talk about that? Great.”
Steve goes on to say that he did in fact go to college which was “really challenging,” but also really great because he got to use his mind and take a step at a time, and now he’s doing things that he always really wanted to do.
Then he turns the attention to us, his old friends, the twenty-somethings on the other side of the screen feeling all nostalgic and warm inside.
“And then look at you,” he says sincerely. “And look at all you have done and all you have accomplished in all that time . . . it’s just so amazing, right? I mean we started out with clues, and now it’s student loans and jobs and families, and some of it has been kind of hard, you know? I know you know.”
Are you crying yet?
Steve earnestly continues by saying that he couldn’t have done any of what he’s been able to accomplish without us and our help back then, which is still helping him even now.
“I guess I just wanted to say that after all these years, I never forgot you . . . ever.”
Cue all the feels! As a 90’s kid who grew up yelling, “a clue, a clue,” at the television screen, Steve’s heartfelt message has me flooded with all the feelings this week. My fellow internet millennials seem to agree, and I think it’s safe to say we never forgot about Steve either:
Therapist: “How are you this week?”
Me: “Steve came back to Blues Clues and now I’m an emotional wreck.”

Steve closed his message with a casual confidence booster to all of his now-adult fans:
“You look great, by the way,” he quips. “Whatever you’re doing, it’s working.”
And if Steve’s message wasn’t enough, Nick Jr. is going all out with the nostalgia this week, sharing videos of Blue’s Clues through the years, and even a clip of all three of the former hosts re-watching and commentating old Blue’s Clues episodes together.
