Disney dropped the new trailer for the upcoming film, ‘Mary Poppins Returns,’ on Monday, and it’s making all of our childhood dreams come true!
Starring as the nanny who was first made famous by P.L. Travers’ books, Emily Blunt is following in the footsteps of an iconic 1964 Julie Andrews proving, “in every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.”
Though the times have changed, Mary Poppins, in all of her glory, has not.
Still dawning her ruby red lips, polka dot gloves and great big bag of everything, the trailer brings back childhood memories and gives us ALL. THE. FEELS!
The new film, which hits theaters this December, meets us with a grown up Jane and Michael Banks who are dealing with the stresses of adulthood after Michael loses his young wife.
A forever youthful Mary Poppins returns to Cherry Tree Lane after 25 years to straighten out the Banks children like she does, and now, do the same for Michael’s own three grieving babes.
Judging by the trailer, audiences are in for some good old fashion nannying full of animated musical numbers, soaring kites, flying umbrellas, and spoonfuls of sugar.
“It’s set in the ’30s during the Great Depression, which is when P.L. Travers wrote them,” Blunt explained in an interview with Variety. “It was the idea of having a darker backdrop in which hope could reappear from the skies. I loved the idea and I love and believe in him,” she says of ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ director, Rob Marshall.
Emily Blunt is joined by Lin Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, and Dick Van Dyke to create a lineup that’s “practically perfect in every way.”
As if that’s not enough of a teaser to look forward to, the sequel features all new original songs with music by award-winning composer Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman.
Can you say, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious?!
