Jessica and Kevin Mahoney are the proud parents of 4-year-old Corbin, but the joy of parenthood for them has been tempered by more than their fair share of loss. Jessica suffered two miscarriages before Corbin’s birth and six more after (my heart hurts BADLY just writing that. Unimaginable loss.), but they are now preparing to welcome a new baby—a “rainbow baby” after all that loss—very soon.
Because this baby has come after such struggle, Kevin wanted to design a really amazing maternity photo shoot for his wife. Enter Connecticut photographer JoAnn Marrero, whose vision became a breathtaking photo that’s going viral in a BIG way.
An incredible, breathtaking image of a woman pregnant with her rainbow baby by photographer From Labor to Love.
Just wow!!!!! ❤️
After exchanging emails with the mom-to-be, photographer Marrero approached her mentor, Mary Moloney, to help her make an EPIC photoshoot happen. Using colorful smoke bombs, they captured the stunning portrait above of Jessica surrounded by a literal cloud rainbow—and it’s simply one of the most poignant images I’ve ever seen in my life!
Marrero told the Huffington Post that the photoshoot was a wonderful, messy event. “It was quite the explosive surprise and really funny!” she said. “One by one each smoke bomb was set (and not without some duds too), with each burst of color we watched this portrait coming to life.”
After the inevitable mess cleared, they had the stunning image above, and the Mahoneys have an unforgettable photo of exactly how miraculous this pregnancy and new life truly are.
Marrero said Jessica was a rock through all the chaos., and that her “pregnancy glow came shining through…this was definitely her moment ― such a proud mother-to-be for the second time.”
Congratulations to the family and to the photographers on this gorgeous representation of the beauty of new life after loss.
If you’re the proud mom of a rainbow baby, I hope you’ll share the Mahoneys’ inspiring story on Facebook!
