I don’t know about you, but I have never gotten those ladies who loooooove being pregnant. I just DON’T. I love having kids, but I hated being pregnant—pretty much all 9 months. I am happy for those that it’s easy for, but I have to give solidarity to those of us who just suffer through it. That’s why I gave a little fist-bump when I read Kelly Clarkson’s recent comments about her two pregnancies in an interview she did on Sirius XM radio. They cracked me up because they sounded ALL TOO FAMILIAR!
Clarkson had SUCH difficult pregnancies that she got her husband Brandon Blackstock to agree to a vasectomy while she was still pregnant with her 2nd child, son Remi. And JUST for good measure, she also had her tubes tied while still on the table after her c-section with Remi! That’s double sterilization! She says:
“I was literally pregnant with Remi, and I was like, ‘You are getting fixed. This will never happen to me again. If something happens, it’s a miracle of God.’ I literally told my OBGYN on the table while open, ‘If I get pregnant again, I will find you!’”
She said they had a 2nd child because she wanted a “buddy” for River, whose half-siblings from Blackstock’s first marriage are much older. She didn’t think her 2nd pregnancy could POSSIBLY be as bad as her first, but, she says, her optimism didn’t pan out.
“I was, like, hospitalized both pregnancies. I wanted another little buddy [for River]. I didn’t want a kid to just be an odd man out because I felt like that a lot. I wanted her to have somebody her age, like when we’re traveling.
“And so I thought, ‘OK, we’ll just do it again.’ I was like, ‘There’s no way it can happen again,’ but it was worse. Remi’s pregnancy was worse than River’s.”
“It’s horrible. Nothing is beautiful, nothing is magical. Whatever, you’re that person that gets that pregnancy, good for you. I will remind my children every day of their lives what I [went through].”
I had to laugh at Clarkson’s last line! Although my kids are definitely worth EVERY time I puked in the Kroger parking lot (or checkout lane, or in the trash can next to my desk at work…), I do enjoy reminding them once in awhile how much I endured to bring them into the world. 🙂
Do you LOVE pregnancy or loathe it? Either way — it’s a privilege to be pregnant, but one some of us definitely enjoy more than others.
