Because I’m a mom and I have no life, I didn’t see many of the movies that were nominated for Golden Globes last night (though I had seen few of the TV shows, thanks Netflix!) but I still had some favorite actors and actresses I was rooting for. I also really enjoyed ogling the fashions on the red carpet as the stars paraded in one by one! I’ve been somewhat critical of celebrity fashions in the past, so this time I wanted to highlight my favorite gowns, and particularly my favorite styles rocked by MOMS who didn’t feel the need to wear see-through fabric over their breasts or rear ends to get noticed! These moms looked amazing AND their kids won’t be embarrassed and say “remember that time when my mom only wore a glitter flower over her nipples at the Golden Globes?” 🙂 WIN! Here are my picks of the best-dressed moms at the 2016 Golden Globes.
Amy Adams: Adams is mom to a five-year-old daughter, as well as a talented Academy award nominated and Golden Globe winning actress. Orange is my favorite color and I LOVED her in this tank dress! Trendy and elegant!
Jada Pinkett-Smith: The actress also known as Willow and Jaden’s mom was stunning in this long, flowing emerald gown. So very classy from head to toe. I LOVED it.
Jennifer Lopez: I like this mustard caped dress that Lopez, the mom of 7-year-old twins, rocked on the red carpet a lot. It wasn’t my favorite, but since I give her a hard time for wearing EVERYTHING SEE THROUGH ALL THE TIME, I had to just take a minute and say she’s all covered up and doesn’t she look more beautiful and elegant than ever? I love the angled layering on the middle of the gown. And, the slit in the dress up to the thigh lets her bare enough skin to still feel like herself, I guess. Well done, JLo. Is it wishful thinking to ask for more of this from you in the future?
Julia Louis-Dreyfus: Longtime fan favorite Julia Louis-Dreyfus is also a mom to two nearly-grown boys. I think she upstaged a lot of younger and more poorly-dressed actresses last night in this classy black lace strapless gown. Simply gorgeous!
Julianne Moore: This Academy Award and Golden Globe Award-winning actress is one of my faves over 40! Mom to teens Caleb and Liv, she was absolutely stunning last night in this long sparkling midnight blue gown. She’s always a class act!
Taraji P. Henson: Henson, the mom of grown son Marcell, was named “Entertainer of the Year” by USA Today for 2015 because of her leading role on “Empire”. And last night she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Series as well!!! (I loved her on Person of Interest and I CRIED when they killed her off!) She won gown of the year in my mind last night with this gorgeous white strapless number. (And I love her sassy expression!)
Kate Winslet: This mum of three always looks elegant on the red carpet, and last night was no exception. I loved her sapphire gown with the “x” neckline. Along with fashion accolades, Winslet has also won both Academy Awards and Golden Globes for her acting, and she won another Golden Globe last night for her performance in the biopic of the late Apple founder, Steve Jobs.
Olivia Wilde: Mama to toddler Otis, Wilde was miles away from cheerios and diapers tonight in this sparkling garnet halter gown. It’s low cut without being skanky, and I thought she looked gorgeous.
Viola Davis: This radiant Emmy winning (and Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee) actress is also mom to daughter Genesis. I absolutely loved her sheer, beaded dark blue gown. She was 100% radiant and elegant. This was a top favorite for me!
Bryce Dallas Howard: This beautiful mom of two won accolades for her vibrant blue Jenny Packham gown, and my admiration for publicly declaring that she bought it herself off-the-rack at Neiman Marcus because she wanted a selection that was “available in a size 6”. Oh Bryce, you win ALL the awards for saying that the designer’s size 0 samples aren’t going to cut it for everyone! (Side note: SO MANY gorgeous gowns in BLUE last night!)
Melissa McCarthy: I really did not like mom of two McCarthy’s dress, but her hair, makeup, and general SELF were GORGEOUS. So I have to just show you a picture of how gorgeous she looked, despite that I think she could’ve picked a prettier frock.
