Cancer Kept Her From Carrying a Child, But Her Twin Sister’s Love Conquered All

There’s an amazing story of sisterhood and motherhood coming out of Mineola, New York this week! Identical twins Dawn Ardolino Policastro and Allison Ardolino Dinkelacke have shared everything in life, but this week they took it one incredible step further when Dawn gave  birth to Allison’s child, a boy, named Hudson William. It’s the 2nd boy for Allison, who did carry her  own first child in 2009. However, during her pregnancy she was diagnosed with pregnancy-related breast cancer, fueled by hormones. She had an emergency c-section at 31 weeks and then was able to undergo successful life-saving treatments for the cancer. But because hormones escalate the type of cancer Allison had, it meant she would never be able to get pregnant again.

All those years ago, her twin sister Dawn told Allison she would carry her next child for her and act as a surrogate—and that’s exactly what she did! The twins’ maternity photographer, Allison Rose Photography, tells the beautiful story on her Facebook page:

I am so honored to be able to share this amazing story of sisterhood, friendship, love and miracles:

In 2009, at the age of 32, Allison was 30 weeks into her pregnancy with her first son when she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. It was so aggressive that she had to start chemotherapy immediately. The day after her first treatment, she went for a sonogram and the baby wasn’t moving. At 31 weeks and on her 33rd birthday (which she shares with her twin sister, Dawn) Allison had an emergency C-section and delivered a healthy little boy. It was the best birthday present they could have ever asked for. Allison went on to have 6 months of chemotherapy, 35 rounds of radiation and numerous surgeries. Allison and her husband always wanted to complete their family with one more child and give their son the sibling he longed for. However, since the cancer was hormone positive, she could not carry another baby herself. Dawn generously offered to be their gestational carrier. Her selfless act of love and devotion has finally made their dreams come true!

What an incredible story of sisterly love and devotion! For more of the beautiful maternity photos, check out Allison Rose Photography on Facebook! Best wishes to the happy mom and aunt!
