Rory Feek, half of the country duo Joey and Rory, says God has answered their prayers about wife Joey Feek’s stage IV cervical cancer. In a blog post today on his blog Rory says the couple has decided Joey will enter hospice tomorrow. It’s a heartbreaking answer to their prayers about what they should do about Joey’s pain.
“Hospice is arranged and a hospital bed will be delivered later this morning. We’ll have a play area on the carpet nearby – close enough for her to watch Indy play, and for Indy to turn and make sure her mama can see her.
Joey is at peace with where she is and where she’s going. So am I.
An answer to prayer.”
Joey and Rory have two teenage daughters, Heidi and Hopie, whom Joey said goodbye to last week when they were visiting her at her family’s home in Indiana, where she will spend her last days.
Joey said his wife’s conversation with their older girls was one no mother should have to have.
“She told them how much she loved them, and how proud she is of them. And how proud she is to be their mother. And then she talked with them about the one thing that she didn’t think she would ever have to talk with them about:
And then she told them of the day when they’ll be together again in Heaven.”
Joey and Rory also have a one-year-old daughter, Indiana, who is bringing much comfort to her mama through her pain. He writes emotionally of their mommy-daughter time at the hospital yesterday where Joey was taken for intense pain:
“Yesterday I sat her down in front of her mama and they smiled and played and loved each other the way that only mamas and their little ones can. Afterwards, when Indy got sleepy, Joey held her and sang “In The Garden” and other hymns as she softly stroked her silky-blonde hair.
Perfect love filled that hospital room as we all held our breath and wiped our eyes.”
My heart hurts as I tell this story…as a mom of three myself, not much younger than Joey, it hits way too close to home. The Feek’s faith in Christ and love for each other are truly inspiring. They are in my prayers, and I choose to believe that when Joey achieves victory over death and stands in Jesus’ presence in a few days, He will hold her family here on earth in the palm of his hand.
