Rory Feek Announces Joey Feek’s Death: “My Wife’s Greatest Dream Came True. She is in Heaven”

JOey and Rory Vday

After months of reporting Joey and Rory Feek’s heroic struggle against her cervical cancer, I am brokenhearted and joyful to report that she passed away today, March 4, 2016 at 2:30 p.m., according to a blog Rory posted on Brokenhearted for her family, and joyful because she is with her Savior. Rory says “My wife’s greatest dream came true today. She is in Heaven.” Once again, his blog has crashed, so here’s a synopsis.

Rory says her family fathered around her holding hands and praying as she breathed her last. He says that he  held her hand and kissed her one last time, and then she took her first breath in Heaven.

“The cancer is gone, the pain has ceased, and all her tears are dry. Joey is in the arms of her beloved brother Justin and using her pretty voice to sing for her savior.”

Rory goes on to say, and this touched me so deeply:

“Though this is, and has been, a time of many tears of sorrow, it has also been a time of countless tears of joy. There have been too many beautiful moments to count or even begin to share in this blog. But I try.

When a person has been through as much pain and struggle as Joey’s been through, you just want it to be over. You want them to not have to hurt anymore, more that you want them to stay with you. And so, it makes the hard job of saying goodbye just a little easier.”

Rory gave us one last gift from his wife—he shared a video of Joey watching a video made especially for her by her idol, Dolly Parton. Joey’s reaction—and Rory’s reaction to Joey’s reaction, with the tears you can clearly see dripping off his nose onto her face—is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.

All our prayers to the Feek and Martin families as they mourn this loss. Thank you again for taking us along on your journey and touching us.

You will see Joey again! Hallelujah! She’s home.
