A few days after burying his wife and music partner Joey Feek, country singer and songwriter Rory Feek spoke about his “bride” as he calls her in a memorial service in her hometown of Alexandra, Indiana. It was in Alexandria that Joey was born, and it’s where she chose to be in hospice care and take her last breath as well. She passed away on March 4th after battling cancer.
Rory’s speech is beautiful and emotional—I can see why he is such a successful songwriter, as he has a way with words. Whether through his music or on his blog, This Life I Live, Rory has a way with words. I am so thankful for the way God used Rory’s words to tell his and Joey’s story over the past few months. I know many were reached for Christ because of their faith through adversity.
Rory also shared some beautiful photos from Joey’s private funeral in Tennessee on a post on his blog, saying, “When it came my time to speak, I walked up on the stage and stood looking at my wife’s sweet picture… and words were not enough to let her know how much she meant to me – how much she still means to me.”
It was this memorial video of Joey shown at her funeral, combined with Rory’s sweet words, that drove me to tears all over again…I’ll never forget the lessons I learned from the Feeks during their beautiful, heartbreaking, but ultimately victorious battle. They WILL be together again, thanks to Christ’s sacrifice!
It was a privilege to watch this, to see and hear Rory speak about Joey and her commitment to LOVE. All our prayers to him and his daughters and they move on to a “new normal” here on earth now that their beloved wife and mother is in heaven.
