In a new post on his blog, This Life I Live, country singer Rory Feek writes that his terminally ill wife and singing partner Joey Feek had a heavy heart over the holidays. He writes that though she was thrilled to still be here on this earth to celebrate Christmas, keeping her spirits up all the time was a challenge.

“Though she managed a smile most of the time, Joey’s heart was heavy and she was feeling some things she hadn’t before. A sadness. A fear of the unknown. And even some anger — not at God, just at her situation I suppose,” Rory wrote. “It’s not easy for her to be as excited about what the new year holds in store as it was last year.

Rory goes on to say that Joey finally was able to “see the light” and find some holiday cheer, with the help of gospel songwriting legend Bill Gaither, who visits Joey often when he is in Alexandria, Indiana, where she’s in hospice for terminal cervical cancer.

Of Gaither’s visits, Rory writes, “We’ll get a knock on the door in the morning or early afternoon, and next thing you know Bill will be parked in a chair beside Joey’s bed, telling her jokes and stories about days long-past and he’ll have Joey and all of us laughing and smiling ’til our faces hurt. I think he just wants to brighten Joey’s day and create as much joy for her as he can. We all do.”

We’re continuing to pray for Joey and Rory as the enter this last phase of her life here on earth! I am praying our Heavenly Father brings her peace and comfort and a glimpse of the joy that awaits her in heaven, while He also holds the hearts of her husband and daughters. Will you join me in sharing that prayer for the Feeks?
