As I have watched the recent Planned Parenthood body parts-selling scandal unfold, I have been horrified. I’ve always been pro-life, and I believe abortion is wrong. I believe it is the taking of a human life.
However, I have kept these views mostly to myself. I mean, everyone who knows me well knows this about me, and people who know me a little probably assume this about me. But that’s not enough anymore.
As I watched Deb Nucatola of Planned Parenthood casually talk about crushing unborn babies while drinking wine and eating salad, I was sickened. It is frightening, the callousness with which she talks about ending a human life—a defenseless human life. When the 4th video came out yesterday, I heard it was gruesome, even featuring a VP of a Planned Parenthood facility dissecting an unborn baby to show the potential “buyer” (undercover actors) the quality of human tissue was available to them. I decided I would NOT watch it.
But the thought nagged at me. The Still Small Voice inside of me was impressing “you need to watch it” on my heart. So I did.
It is horrific. It is not for the faint of heart, however, I am generally faint of heart and I survived watching it. You guys, at the end, the medical assistant who is helping sift through the baby body parts cries, “It’s another boy!” in a gleeful tone that mocks what people say when babies are born alive, and I almost vomited. I cannot un-see that, I cannot un-hear that, but that’s a good thing.
Here’s the thing: Abortion has ALWAYS been wrong, before it was legal, and since it has been legal. This video doesn’t make it worse, but it does, I believe, make the consequences worse for those of us who are pro-life and choose to stay silent. So I will speak up for the voiceless, innocent lives taken by the thousands each day. I don’t judge those who have had an abortion, and I have not a sliver of hate in my heart for anyone. But I have lots of grief in my heart. I mourn for those lost children. God help us, what we have brought upon ourselves.
Approximately 58 million abortions have been performed in the United States since 1973. 58 MILLION. That is almost 10 times the number of Jews that were killed in the Holocaust, when the German people stayed silent about the killing of their neighbors.
Will we, American Christians, continue to remain silent? I cannot any longer. And for that, I thank the courageous people that made these videos that shocked my voice into action. And of course, the cold, calculated, body-parts-selling staff of Planned Parenthood.
This is what I am doing to speak up today, but it doesn’t end there. We must speak up, but we must also support those who choose life. Give to centers that help mothers who choose life. Support adoption fundraisers, and become foster parents. Speak, give, and act. It starts today for me. Will you join me?
