A southern California lawyer has become a hero to the parents of 26 kindergarteners at Rio Vista Elementary School in Anaheim. Attorney Marty Burbank, who has enjoyed sailing since he was a child, says he was looking to buy himself a boat, when a sermon at his church changed his mind. The sermon, he told NBC Los Angeles, was on charity and giving.
Burbank says, “When he gave that sermon I just felt that buying a boat was a very selfish thing for me, and I can do so much more to impact the lives of these kids.”
Parents of the kindergarteners are understandably overwhelmed with shock and gratitude.
“I just can’t believe it. I can’t” said Maria Rodriguez, the mother of a student. “I don’t believe someone would be this interested in paying the tuition of this many kids.”
Burbank estimates that with inflation, tuition for the 26 kiddos will be about one million dollars. But wow—can you imagine the return on one man’s investment the world will get and these kids use their education to make an impact? Amazing!
Pretty exciting that a man would make news today for following Jesus’ lead and giving away what he has on earth to store up treasures in heaven. I love this story! Well done, Mr. Burbank. Can’t wait to see what a difference these kiddos make in our world!
