Tired of scrolling through your news feed and seeing ONLY the stuff that bores and/or terrifies you? ME TOO! It’s great to be informed, but I’ve made it my mission to help moms catch the news stories they actually WANT to read. Here are today’s top news stories for moms.

1. Chip and Joanna Gaines are pregnant with baby #5!!!

Honestly, I am so excited about this I practically squealed while typing it. Chip and Joanna Gaines may have left Fixer Upper behind, but big things are ahead for the Gaines, including a new baby this year! The couple announced the pregnancy after last night’s Fixer Upper aired, with this cute Instagram shot:

Baby Gaines will be in good company with big sibs Duke, Drake, Emmie, and Ella. I can’t WAIT to see what they do with the nursery! (I smell an HGTV special, just sayin’!)

2. It’s REALLY COLD in the Midwest and the East Coast is Facing a “Monster Storm”

I know this may not seem like BIG NEWS, but here in the midwest we’ve been f-f-f-freezing for several days now with temps in the single digits and big negative windchill temps. Now, this major cold is moving to the Southeast, in places where snow doesn’t usually fall, causing some big potential calamities. For instance, CNN reports that Tallahassee, Florida expects up to an inch of ice and snow today, and they haven’t had measurable snow fall since 1989. So, I’m 40 years old now, and the last time Tallahassee had snow I was 11, rocking pink glasses and my Coca-Cola shirt and a bad home perm in my school yearbook photo. WHAT. This is all part of what meteorologists are calling a “monster storm” or a winter “bomb hurricane” and it will also drop snow on the Carolinas, Georgia, and other typically warm places, so if you’re a parent living in these areas, prepare to hunker down ’cause the kids aren’t having school for AWHILE. New England is supposed to really get hammered by this storm, and Erie, PA has gotten like 7 feet of snow since Christmas Eve, so BASICALLY – if you’re on the West Coast, you’re gonna wanna stay put for awhile.

3. California mom gives birth to twins — in separate years

Newborn Joaquin Jr. Ontiveros is only 20 minutes older than his twin sister Aitana, but he entered the world at 2 minutes BEFORE midnight on December 31, 2017, while she was born 18 minutes into the New Year. Though Joaquin and Aitana will be able to joke with each other for life about the unusual timing of their births, I think mom Maria Flores made out big-time in this deal: she will get a tax break for 2017 for her little boy, and received $3,000 worth of baby gifts for her little girl because she was the hospital’s first baby born in 2018, according to TODAY.com.
