Her Dad Died When She Was 16. Five Years Later, He Sent His Last Letter

She said, “My dad passed away when I was 16 from cancer. Before he died, he pre paid flowers so I could receive them every year on my birthday. Well, these are my 21st birthday flowers and the last I’ll receive. Miss you so much, Daddy.” 💜
The card reads:

‘Bailey,
This is my last love letter to you until we meet again. I do not want you to shed another tear for me my baby girl for I am in a better place. You are and will always be the most precious jewel I was given. It is your 21st birthday and I want you to always respect your momma and stay true to yourself. Be happy and live life to the fullest. I will still be with you through every milestone, just look around and there I will be. I love you Boo Boo and Happy Birthday!!!!
Daddy.’

Bailey story reminded me of how important it is for me to let my children know that I love them while I’m here. We aren’t guaranteed tomorrow. Bailey’s dad knew that he would not be around, that he would not survive his cancer, and so he took special pains to make sure his daughter knew how much she cared about her, especially in this last letter. Not all of us will have the benefit of knowing that our days are so closely numbered. My prayer is that I will love my children every day as if it is my last, and that I will remember to truly take each moment with them – the good and the bad – as a gift.
