Dear Teachers, I Love You the Most

I love you because you’ve shown my teenage son what it looks like to rise above hard things and still pursue Christ. I love you because you’ve shown him what it looks like to serve students all day long, and then go out and serve those in need on your weekends and holidays. I love you because you’ve encouraged him in the subjects he excels at, applauded him when he’s using his gifts well, and dared him to get out of his shell a bit more.

And also, I love you for teaching them all those things they are required to know to graduate. 🙂 I guess I should mention academics in there somewhere.

But also:

I love you because you have kids of your own and you still pour into mine. That is a gift that is indescribable. I love you because you get up at an ungodly hour to be ready before my kids walks through your classroom door. I love you because you work hard for not a lot of money and you often spend your own on your students. I love you because you answer my emails patiently and are always up front with me about concerns. I love you because you truly have partnered with me in my child’s education.

I fully realize that, bottom line, my child’s education is my responsibility, not yours. But I am truly grateful you’ve allowed me to know that I can trust the education each of my kids are getting while they are in your care from 8:15-2:55 every Monday through Friday. The excellence with which you do your job does make the excellence I strive for in my job as a parent so much more attainable.

So Dear Teachers, as this school year begins, as you trade long summer days for early school mornings, please know that I love you. That you are loved. You are appreciated, you are valued. I know my kids may not understand how amazing you are, so let me do my best to express on behalf of my whole family that you are a gift from God, and this mom will never take you for granted.

Much love,

Jenny
