All parents care for a sick child now and again, and it can be draining. But few of us really know what it’s like to care for a child who is chronically or devastatingly ill or injured. Parents of kids with cancer, epilepsy, chromosomal disorders, severe accident injuries, or chronic illness fight an uphill battle EVERY day, and only they can truly know how difficult it is.
A non-profit called SickKids Foundation released this 90-second ad just in time for Mother’s Day to put a spotlight on the warrior moms who fight for their child’s lives every day. In it you see moms crying, praying, screaming in rage, and dealing with the really HARD things – like learning CPR and the intricate details of caring for a child attached to tubes and wires. It is a stark picture of the anguish moms of sick kids go through, and it’s something ALL moms need to see.
We all need to see how these strong moms give their emotions an outlet—cry, get angry, pound the steering wheel and scream—but then wipe their tears and straighten their backbones and get back to the gut-wrenching work of caring for their ill child.
I know it’s hard, but give it a watch. And, this Mother’s Day, say an extra prayer for the moms of kids with special needs and health challenges. They need God’s strength and his angels watching over them and their kids far more than the average mom.
And they are AMAZING.
