John Stamos Opened Up About a Bully That Attacked Him in High School

John Stamos is known for his role as Uncle Jesse on “Full House” (and later “Fuller House”) and even earlier on “General Hospital.” The popular star surprised fans when he shared that he was attacked by a bully in high school.

The life-changing attack compelled him to do “something drastic,” shared Stamos in an article.

John Stamos Recalls Being “Not That Cool” and Attacked by a Bully in High School

In his roles as Jesse Katsopolis on “Full House” or Blackie Parrish on “General Hospital,” teenage heartthrob John Stamos was seen as the epitome of “cool.” But, as the actor shared, that wasn’t always the case. In fact, he said that he wasn’t that cool growing up.

In a recent episode of Family Trips with the Meyers Brothers, Stamos shared that he was “a nerdy kid in junior high and high school.” To support this label, Stamos gave examples of his pastimes: marching band and “magic and puppets.”

“Those things are not chick-magnet-type things,” he said with a smile. “I’m in marching band, which is also you know, not that cool.”

Like many high schoolers, Stamos remembered “starting to grow into some sort of look.” He seemed to be growing out of his “nerdy” phase and into a more developed actor.

“It was right as I was going from the caterpillar to the butterfly, and so I didn’t really even think of myself as good [looking]. I mean, I wanted girls so bad,” the actor said.

Stamos admitted that “there was always someone who wanted to beat me up.”

Around that time, Stamos found out that “the hottest girl” wanted to go out with him. In his excitement, he shared the news with a few friends, and they told even more friends. Stamos was telling even more friends at a party one night, and the news got around to the girl’s boyfriend.

The guy—the bully—found Stamos, and “Bam! Punched me right in the eye. Big black eye. And it was the most humiliating, awful thing. To this day, I can feel it,” Stamos recalled.

Stamos recently released a memoir “If You Would Have Told Me: A Memoir” and shared his life’s transformation from flipping burgers at his dad’s fast-food restaurant to teen idol stardom in his roles on “General Hospital” and “Full House.” Later, he had another heartbreaking transformation into a divorced man, living alone.

His talent spans leading roles on the big screen and on Broadway, and “living out his youthful dreams as an honorary Beach Boy.”

A universal story about friendship, love, loss, and the courage to embrace love once more, John Stamos’s memoir is filled with some of the most memorable names in Hollywood, both old and new.
