These experiences left Jinger terrified at the thought of following the same path. However, Jeremy’s support and her eventual realization that she did not have to adhere to Gothard’s strict teachings brought her immense relief.
“Once I realized that I don’t need to have as many kids as possible, I felt a massive weight off of my shoulders,” she said.
Jeremy shared that during their courtship, Jinger’s father had encouraged him to follow Gothard’s teachings, but Jeremy soon recognized the inconsistencies between Gothard’s directives and the actual messages of the Bible.
“It was a twisting of scripture to tell every woman, ‘This is what you do regardless,’” Jeremy explained.
With newfound clarity, Jinger embraced the idea of planning her pregnancies, making the prospect of motherhood much more appealing and exciting. She and Jeremy, who have been married for seven years and are parents to two children, now cherish the ability to choose when to expand their family.
“I think it can be a sweeter situation, where [babies] are coming in when you’re like, ‘Oh, I’d love to have a kid now, let’s have a kid,’” Jinger said. “Kids are great and they are a blessing.”
Jinger Duggar Vuolo’s journey from fear to joy in motherhood is a testament to the importance of personal choice and finding one’s own path, free from the constraints of imposed beliefs.
