Jessa Duggar Seewald is opening up this week about suffering a miscarriage over the holidays, and letting followers in on her pregnancy journey.
The former reality star was pregnant with her fifth child when her and husband, Ben Seewald, learned their baby no longer had a heartbeat in December.
In an 18-minute YouTube video, titled “Heartbreak Over the Holidays,” the 30-year-old shared details of the loss, and revealed what the Lord has been teaching her through it.

She explained that toward the end of her first trimester in December 2022, she was experiencing more nausea and fatigue than she’s experienced in the past. Her entire household was cycling through bouts of illness, and the holidays only added to the chaos.
Jessa says she experienced “the tiniest amount” of vaginal bleeding, which according to the Mayo Clinic, is perfectly normal during pregnancy, but can sometimes signal a miscarriage.
Just before Christmas, Jessa had an ultrasound. She was about 11 weeks pregnant.
“As soon as she started taking a look at the baby, I could tell there was some concern in her voice,” she explained of the ultrasound tech. “She said, ‘Well, the sac looks good; the baby does not.”
“At that moment, I was just in complete shock,” Seewald added. “I didn’t even have words. I just immediately started crying.”
As she and Ben processed the news, she wondered, “Why now?” and “Was it my fault?”
