Mama, You Need Rest, Too

Now no, I am not saying to let your house go and your family starve but I am suggesting we stop striving for everything to be “perfect” and add some R&R to our to-do list.

If Jesus took time to rest, why shouldn’t we?

We were created in His image and should strive every day to be more like Him, so we need to prioritze our rest just as He did.

Maybe when we choose to rest we recognize that we can’t do it all. We can’t be everything to everybody all the time. We admit to ourselves that we aren’t superwoman and need time away from demands of the day to just BE. To regroup. To recognize the blessings we too often take for granted.

When we truly rest we give God the opportunity to show us who He is and how He works.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28–30).

When you’re a busy mama trying to juggle all the things and sometimes find time to wash your hair, choosing rest takes faith. Taking time to shut down for a bit – think nap, long shower, workout class, solo Target run, coffee with a friend – requires you to trust that God will help you take care of all the things after you’ve taken time to rest your mind, body and spirit. We’re better versions of ourselves for our people when we take the time to rest so come on, take that leap of faith.

How can you find time to rest this week?
