Where Is Chris Watts Now? Life in Prison After Killing His Family

Chris Watts Admitted to Killing His Wife and Daughters

On August 15, 2018—two days after Shanann and their daughters went missing—Watts admitted to killing Shannan. He claimed she had smothered the two girls after Watts told her they were separating.

Law enforcement didn’t believe that Shannan had killed the girls and continued to investigate the murders of all three. Watts was suspected of killing the girls, too.

Shannan’s body was found in a shallow grave near where Watts worked, and the girls’ bodies were found inside oil tanks at his workplace.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Watts was having an affair with a co-worker. She had come to law enforcement and said she believed he was going through an “amicable” divorce.

Watts stuck to his story until, in November, he instead pleaded guilty to killing Shanann, Bella, and Celeste.

“The evidence against him was overwhelming,” an undisclosed source told PEOPLE at the time. “He had no choice, considering the evidence. It took time for him to come around, but he did.”
