The mother of three was asking for insights on a new device called the Light Phone.
According to their website, the Light Phone is “the most practical way to ditch your smartphone for good.”
With two new models, the Light Phone II, and the Light Phone III both feature the simplicity of a flip phone, with some non-addictive features of a smartphone.
The Light Phone II does not emit blue light, and is recommended as a great first phone for a child, while the Light Phone III includes a camera and the ability to add 5G for travel.
Fellow Hollywood elite, Maria Shriver commented on Jessica’s post saying that her daughter has a Light Phone and loves it.
“Yes i gave one to my daughter who requested one when they came out,” Shriver wrote.
The Clark Family Creative also shared another smartphone alternative, Gabb phone.
“We use Gabb phones for our kids and they’re awesome! They can call and text but no internet access or social media.”
Despite any criticism for believing her teenage son would choose to trade in his smartphone for a blast from the past, Jessica’s post is filled with comments from parents who all agree that smartphones and social media are not for young teens.
According to the latest data, about 95% of teenagers (ages 13-18) in the United States own a smartphone, with the average age for receiving their first smartphone being around 11 years old (Internet Matters) (Pew Research Center).
Despite the perceived benefits, there are significant concerns. About 42% of teens feel that smartphones make it harder to develop good social skills. Additionally, two-thirds of children report experiencing some form of online harm, which can range from cyberbullying to exposure to inappropriate content.
In the days since sharing about Shepherd’s graduation gift, Jessica Seinfeld has kept the conversation going, sharing several cell phone statistics and posts from experts in the field.
