Hey Mama, Church Matters

It’s Sunday morning, the house is quiet.

Why do kids sleep so much later on Sunday?

It wouldn’t hurt to miss one Sunday, honestly. We could watch online.

And the enemy draws a little closer.

We could cook a big brunch, have some family time. Oh yes, we’ve been wanting to ride out to the new park in town. If we push church to tomorrow night, we could watch the replay and spend the morning at the park.

And the enemy draws closer.

It’s just one Sunday, seriously doesn’t change our entire future.

And the enemy draws closer.

Just one Sunday doesn’t sound like a big deal. But one Sunday makes it easier to miss another. And another. And another.

Church matters. I thought about this for a long time this morning as I read through some comments on a Facebook post I’d written.

More than a dozen comments from people who live hours and hours away. These are the people from the church of my childhood, a church I haven’t attended in many years. Those people are still speaking life and encouragement over me and my family. They love my kids and they have never even met most of them.

Church matters. It’s the specific time set aside for worship that our entire family will practice at the very same time. It’s an open door for continued conversation and even questions from a message we all sat under.

Church matters. So if you’re still wrestling with thoughts of skipping it today, go ahead and wake those kids and get them to church.

Church matters because it is one more line of defense against the enemy.

And maybe one day, when they need encouragement, it will come from the church of their childhood.
