‘We Are Done’—TikTok Mom Shared How She Opted Her Kindergartner Out of Homework

Cayley called the sight words for the week were “mindless” and assed how her son could accomplish the kindergarten goals for the quarter. “My kid is extremely advanced,” said Cayley.

“Reading log, sight words, and very minimal homework that’s actually interactive is what we accomplished,” Cayley said referencing her initial “nice, kind, authoritative email.”

She understood that a child’s education is a team effort. “I told her I would be up for meeting in the middle and working as a team because that is what we’re here for — the benefit of our children,” Cayley said.

Cayley encouraged other parents to speak up on behalf of their children. “This is your sign to maybe say something to your teacher, nicely and politely, if something doesn’t sit right with you at their school.”

Viewers again chimed in with their opinions. Crystal also opted her son out of homework. She “told teacher if he was struggling on a subject we could work on it but as long as he’s at or above level no thanks. Time at home is for family”

Molly asked about a connection she saw between the two videos. “If he can already do it all, shouldn’t the homework pages be easy for him to quickly complete though?”

Another mom shared her own experience. “My kinder was advanced and hated public school since preschool, so much that we mixed homeschool with traditional and she went off to a D1 college at 16. Some kids just don’t fit the norm.”
