Anderson is SO very lucky that no children died in her care; as I’ve previously written, leaving a child to sleep in a car seat (much less be tied to one all day) can easily result in a suffocation death..
As a working parent, I one hundred percent feel that finding reliable, safe, affordable child care has been my number one challenge, and I know I am not alone. It breaks my heart that the parents of these precious kids now have to deal with helping their children heal from trauma and also the guilt they must feel over what happened at the hands of this monster. I can only pray for healing, and that our country would pass better parental leave laws that allow parents to take more time at home with newborn and newly adopted children before they have to seek child care and return to work. Although I think many feel that a home daycare provides a safer, less expensive alternative to a traditional one, cases like this one make it clear that it’s still a gamble.
I can only hope that Anderson’s crimes and her punishment (which I pray is severe and fitting of the crimes) get plenty of press so that other home daycare providers will think twice before even thinking about treating children in this manner, and so that parents who prospective home daycare customers will be especially wary.
I hope you will join me in praying for these little ones and their parents. I am quite sure they all have a long road ahead as they recover from the trauma Anderson has inflicted on their families.
