Whether you prefer the more traditional options like a box of Thin Mints or Peanut Butter Patties (better known as Tagalongs) or you’re one to take a walk on the wild side with Caramel deLites (Samoas), the second most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner.
This year, there’s a new flavor that just might change the game for cookie lovers everywhere.
For the 2020 cookie season, Girl Scouts is rolling out a new lemon-flavored cookie called Lemon-Ups.
The crisp, lemon-flavored biscuits have a layer of sweet glaze on one side to balance out the tartness.
According to TODAY, each round cookie includes an encouraging message inspired by the mission of the Girl Scouts. Some phrases include: “I’m a leader,” “I am an innovator,” and “I am a risk-taker.”
Unfortunately, Lemon-Ups, which are made by Little Brownie Bakers, won’t be available everywhere. Each Girl Scout council chooses which baker to use. That’s why some cookies have different names, and some troops have different offerings.
The good news? No matter where you live, it’s likely you’ll still be able to enjoy Lemonades, which are made by ABC Bakers. The thin, sweet biscuit is dipped in a “refreshingly tangy lemon-flavored icing,” and stamped to look like a fresh lemon.
“GSUSA works closely with its licensed bakers to keep our Girl Scout Cookie selection mouth-wateringly top-notch, which means bringing new cookies into the mix periodically based on sales, flavor trends, and consumer preferences,” Stewart Goodbody, senior director of communications and external affairs at Girl Scouts of the USA says of the new flavor rollout.
“We wanted to keep the same lemon flavor consumers know and love but introduce a new take on it, complete with messages inspired by Girl Scout Cookie entrepreneurs!”
In addition to this year’s new flavor, GSUSA is rolling out new packaging designs to showcase what Girl Scouts is all about.
Every year, Girl Scout cookie sales help fund troops nationwide, empowering girls to grow and take part in a variety of activities—everything from camping and hiking to robotics and STEM classes.
“Every purchase of Girl Scout Cookies makes experiences like these possible for girls in your local community,” Goodbody said.
