Forget Passing Notes, Scrunchies are the Newest Dating Trend & We Feel Like it’s 1994

The memories are vague, but we all remember the days before smartphones and texting. The “simpler times” if you will, back when we would pass notes in class and cheeky little love notes determined your relationship status.

Well folks, we’ve come a long way from writing notes and sharing real conversation. The newest trend among tweens and teens is actually more of a blast to the past.

That’s because middle school and high school boys are wearing scrunchies, and it’s gotta be the weirdest thing since 1990.

Here’s how it works: when a girl thinks a boy is cute, she gives him her scrunchie (because apparently those have made a comeback after 20 years). If he likes her back, HE wears the scrunchie on his wrist, formally telling the world that he is taken.

Middle School boy mom, Emily Covington took to Facebook this week with a hilarious message to all middle school girl moms after a stash of scrunchies found its way into her house.

“PSA to ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRL MOMS!” she wrote.

“Are you tired of wasting money on hair scrunchies? Feel like you’re buying them every week? Wondering why your daughter can’t keep up with them?

Well, let me let you in on a little secret…They are being found in the dryer of every boy Mom’s home. I’m about to start a lost and found page for them on Facebook or better yet return them to school with a love note for me.”

“Apparently it’s cool to give your scrunchie to someone you think is cute, below is a stash that we have racked up just this week.

So basically stop wasting your money and clogging up my dryer.”
