Sometimes, we move through each day without being fully present in the moment. By checking in with yourself, you can establish a deeper connection with yourself, and by doing so, you’ll feel better connected with the people and places around you.
Self-check-ins can also include moments of meditation where, instead of asking yourself questions, you actively try to eliminate all thoughts from your mind. During meditation, the goal is to focus on your breathing and enter an intense state of relaxation. You can meditate for five minutes in the morning and work up to longer periods. Incorporating this peaceful time into your day can also spread calmness into other hectic moments of your day.
Self-Check-In Questions to Ask Yourself
When doing self-check-ins, you may wonder what types of questions you should ask yourself. There are an endless number of questions you can ask, but you should focus on all areas of your life, including yourself, your family, your love life, your career, and if it’s important to you, your faith.
Career
When focusing on your career, you may ask questions about the positive aspects of your job, the tasks you continue to put aside each day and why, the negative aspects of your job and why you feel these things are negative, and what your daily mantra is your work. Considering these questions can remind you why you get up for work each day and why you’re drawn to your career.
Family
Family life can be exhausting and you may feel constantly drained as opposed to grateful. Checking in can give you time to remember why you’re blessed with family. It can be helpful to remember a recent experience with your family that made you happy.
It’s also fun to daydream about what you would do with your family if you had unlimited time with them or unlimited money to spend. You may also want to consider if there are specific family members making you feel drained or undervalued and how you can communicate your feelings to that person in a productive way.
Love
Whether you’re married, partnered, or single, your love life can take up a lot of your emotional energy. Understanding why you feel the way you do about your love life is essential. Working through your emotions each day can keep you balanced and make all other responsibilities in life easier to manage.
You should ask yourself how you’re feeling in your relationship and what you’re craving from your partner. You should look at the positive side and consider what makes you happiest about your partner and why you’re thankful for them.
Self
Because these moments are called self-check-ins, it’s important to focus your questions on yourself and your overall well-being. These questions may be broad and hard to answer, but asking them each day and writing down your answers can give you clarity overtime on how you’re feeling in life. Some questions to consider include:
- What are my biggest fears, and how can I move past them?
- Am I making time for my friends and putting myself out there?
- Who and what inspires me?
- How can I give back to others?
Making time for yourself isn’t selfish. In fact, doing so can be beneficial to you and everyone around you. We hope as you make self-check-ins a part of your daily routine, you’ll see the benefits of this mindfulness practice and feel an increased sense of happiness and overall well-being.
