The New Royal Baby is Here! But WHAT Will His Name Be?

He’s here! The newest addition to the Royal Family made his grand entrance in the early hours of Monday morning, and we have SO many questions about the royal baby!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the birth of their son on their new official Instagram account following a statement from Kensington Palace earlier this morning.

But as speculated by followers of the royal family, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did things a little differently than royal tradition would suggest.

For starters, Meghan Markle, unlike her sister-in-law Kate, did not give birth at St. Mary’s Hospital in London. The couple was rumored to have given birth from their Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, where it’s believed that Meghan had a doula to assist with the process.

[The] British press [is] shaking their finger at the couple’s decision as it robs them of the traditional post-birth photo-op on the front steps of St. Mary’s. But we have to admire their privacy measures as some of the most-looked to people on the planet.

Reports estimate that over one BILLION people tuned into Harry and Meghan’s wedding ceremony last spring…so can we really blame them for wanting to keep things private with the birth of their first child?

But not out of character for the Royals, is making the public wait an excruciatingly long period of time to learn the new baby’s name. Just last spring Prince William and wife Kate welcomed their third son, Prince Louis, on a Monday. However, they did not release his name until FRIDAY!

It looks as though we’re in for a bit of a wait on this one too, folks. Harry announced in a statement Monday morning that photos of the baby will be debuted to the public in two days. But only time will tell if that’s when we’ll also learn the baby’s name.

Until then, this is what we know about the new Royal Baby’s name.

Speaking to the press, Prince Harry said that he and Meghan are still in the process of choosing a name for Baby Sussex. He added, however, that the little boy is overdue, so they have had some extra time to think on it.

Although we don’t know the baby’s first name, we know that his official last name is Mountbatten-Windsor, as passed down from Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip.

Barring any intervention from the Queen, the royal baby’s title will be Lord rather than Prince, and he is seventh in line to the [throne], knocking great uncle Andrew — the second son of the queen — down a notch in the process.

Still, even with a bump in the ranks, it’s highly unlikely that this new royal baby will ever make it to the throne as his grandfather Prince Charles, uncle Prince William and all three of his children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, are all in line first. Then still, his own father Prince Harry would see the throne before him, all in that order.

The Lord of Sussex is expected by the British public to have a traditional name like Arthur or James, which would honor a family member. But if we’ve taken note of anything Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have done throughout the course of their relationship, I think it’s safe to say that this one is a toss-up. We may see something uber-traditional, or we may see a very Hollywood-esque name from the former actress and lifestyle blogger.

Only time will tell.

BRB, going to binge-watch “The Crown” until further notice.
