Sarah Michelle Gellar Is My Current Celebrity Parenting Hero

Fun fact about me: my second-favorite television show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and my first, for the record, is Veronica Mars.) I know, I know, it’s shocking that a Christian mom writer could admit that in print, but…Buffy is a great show (after the first season, ahem), and I’ve actually learned a lot about writing from Buffy. Besiiiides, Buffy’s a good guy, and spoiler alert, GOOD is always preferred over EVIL on the show. I discovered Buffy in 2000 as a newlywed, and quickly became a fan of the show’s heroine, played by one Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Although Sarah Michelle Gellar has put her vampire-slaying days behind her, she’s currently slaying at parenting.

Gellar and her husband, Freddie Prinze, Jr. have been married for sixteen years, which is like, an eternity in Hollywood years (so, great job guys!!). They are also the proud parents of Charlotte, 9, and Rocky, 6, whom they’ve been careful to shield from the limelight. I mean, it’s not their fault they have famous parents, right? While I appreciate Gellar’s desire to protect her kids from the press, I also appreciate her sense of humor in parenting…and that she knows exactly how and when to use her fame appropriately.

Like, to embarrass her kids at school pick-up, for instance.

Sarah Michelle Gellar slaaaayed parenting big time at school pick-up last week, and she posted about it on Instagram.

That’s right, Gellar wore a Buffy t-shirt with a picture of her face on it to pick up Charlotte and Rocky from school! When I saw this my first thought was, “That’s so hilarious!” and my second thought was, “I want that shirt!”
