Motherhood is both a full heart and a pounding headache.
It’s the embrace of little arms and the tantrums as they fight back.
It’s teaching new words and scolding them for repeating bad ones.
It’s wanting to jump in and play and slipping away to take a break.
It’s both “you are my sunshine” and you’re the front of a hurricane.
Motherhood will not save you.
But it won’t drown you either.
You’ll be a child’s everything while you rely on someone bigger than yourself.
It makes you cry tears of joy. And tears of worry and regret.
It gives you new friends. And may distance you from others.
It’s every season of life. Bigger and louder and brighter than before.
Motherhood isn’t just the good times. Or the hard ones.
It’s a collage of all the moments we’ve shared and the lessons learned.
I thought I had an idea of what motherhood was.
But it’s really been so much more.
