A Celebration Gone Wrong: Dad Pours Champagne Over 3-Year-Old’s Head at Her Birthday Party

TikTok Viewers Offer Opinions on Whether or Not Alcohol Should be Present at Kids’ Parties

Regardless of creative and cultural celebrations, many argue that alcohol has no place at a child’s party—even if only the adults, of the legal drinking age, are partaking.

“It would have been significantly less inappropriate if the parents had at least considered pouring juice over the girl’s head instead of champagne,” suggested YourTango.com.

Kaysie, a TikTok viewer, commented, “I will never understand alcohol being served/present at a kid’s function.”

Another person of color, Mel, said, “Being hispanic i HATED when the adults would drink or bring alcohol when i was younger so thank u.”

Allowing or serving alcohol at a child’s party can, unintentionally, take the focus of the party away from the child. Depending on how adults partake of alcohol, the event can become more about the adults and their enjoyment.

“Reminds me of when my family got drunk on my sister’s anime b-day party……she turned i think 13 or 14?” A viewer continued, “All the kids just sat to the side with nothing to do 😒”

Nikki said, “These parties are really for the adults.”

Whether you choose to allow alcohol at your child’s party or not, be mindful of the implications and be sure to set appropriate and safe boundaries.
