As you can imagine, several current and former restaurant servers chimed in, with most saying the act of cleaning up after kids is not necessary, but always appreciated.
“As a waitress, I love when parents do this, and I’ll always stop them and say I will clean it up. Just the fact they are aware of the mess is enough for me,” one user wrote.

“I have worked as a waiter and this is not something y’all moms have to do but it makes us waiters smile just like when y’all put the plates in a stack,” wrote another.
“The people asking why this is an unpopular opinion/saying it’s not must have never been a server lol I’ve only actually seen a parent clean up their child’s mess maybe twice in my 9 yrs serving,” another shared.
Several others insisted the opposite, saying they often encourage moms not to clean up when they see this, often because they recognize the weight of motherhood and know that the same mom cleaning up the floor of a restaurant has already cleaned up a few messes that day.
When Parents Don’t Clean Up After Their Kids
Similar videos and posts have gone viral for moms doing the opposite of Courtney. Just last year, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Bass posted a picture of his kids next to a pile of popcorn claiming that the flight attendants made his pregnant wife pick it up.
“The flight attendant @united just made my 22 week pregnant wife traveling with a 5 year old and 2 year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter,” he wrote on X. “Are you kidding me?!?!”
He then later informed the internet that the flight attendants provided the popcorn, not his wife.
Let’s just say, he didn’t exactly get the reaction he was hoping for.
Several people were quick to defend the flight attendants, saying that their job is to ensure safety, not clean up anyone’s mess.
Some were resoundingly bothered by the level of entitlement Bass exuded with his bothered post, while others said the entire thing was just embarrassing—for him.
Nonetheless, it’s safe to say that people in America have strong feelings about kids in spaces where adults are doing life. May we all seek to be respectful and serve those around us, especially when it comes to managing kids.
