BabyCenter Releases Top 100 Baby Names of 2020

2020 has been a mixed bag, but one thing that hasn’t changed: the most popular baby names of 2020.

That’s right! According to BabyCenter, despite all of the wild and crazy changes of this year, the most popular baby boy name and baby girl name is the same as it was in 2019.

For boys, Liam is still the reigning champ for the second year in a row, while Sophia takes the crown yet again for baby girls. The beloved girl name has been the site’s most popular for 11 years now, and shows no sign of budging.

Every year, BabyCenter compiles the names of babies born to some 500,000+ registered U.S. parents to determine popularity. They combine those which sound the same but have different spellings (such as Sophia and Sofia), to create their annual list.

According to BabyCenter, baby names are always a mirror of the times. Following the tragic loss of Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna earlier this year, their names both shot up in popularity with Kobe seeing a 175% increase, and Gianna, a 216% increase.

In light of a huge election year, Kamala is up 104% in popularity. And while 2020 has seen many notable names, parents are steering clear of any names that have negative connotations from this dumpster fire of a year. Karen and Chad for example, have declined by 13% and 12% respectively.
