Car seats are FANTASTIC for keeping our babies safe in the car—one of the great inventions of this modern age for sure. Infant carried car seats also great for seamlessly transporting baby from car to house or stroller—but sometimes carrying that seat can put a real strain on the postpartum body! (I know for me, after the birth of my first child I developed a carpal-tunnel-like postpartum injury to my left wrist and car seat carrying was agony for awhile!) That’s why even though my car seat-carrying days are long behind me, I knew I had to share this great car seat hack when I saw it!
Bridge Family Chiropractic shared this car seat hack in a short video on YouTube and Facebook. It shows that by looping your arm through the car seat handle and grasping it on its underside instead of simply hooking the infant carrier handle over the center of your arm, you can save a lot of strain on your arm and back.
Bridge’s tip has gotten SO popular that it has over 54,000 shares and 4 million views on Facebook! Of course, there are also those who say it didn’t work for them, so Bridge did add this disclaimer to the video, saying,
It has been brought to my attention that one viewer experienced discomfort when attempting this maneuver.
I am sorry to hear that and so I wanted to share that due to so many different makes and models of car seats, it is likely that this method won’t work for all seats.
This was merely an attempt to pass along a creative idea that was shared and works incredibly well for the majority of those who attempt it.
I suggest being cleared by your medical professional prior to trying any new regimen if you would like to ensure you are fit to perform actions like the one shown here.
We also wanted to share that while car seats are the ideal choice for safety while riding in a car they aren’t the top choice for a baby if you’re able to hold them or baby-wear instead. There are several resources online if you need suggestions or demonstrations on the proper way to baby-wear.
Thank you so much for all of your support! I’m so glad to be able to share this message and provide benefit to so many of you!
So, what do you think? Have you tried this car seat hack, or will you? I think it looks great, and it makes me wish I had a little baby in an infant carrier to try it out!
