Photo, Katie Lacer/MommaKTShoots
I think the reason these postpartum photos resonate with me so strongly is because we tend to focus so much on the miracle of BIRTH that we gloss over how not pretty it is immediately afterward. What we’ve just gone through to bring new life into the world is HARD, and has an immediate and significant toll on our bodies. Recovery is messy and “bouncing back” is something very few of us postpartum moms do, physically or emotionally. So I love how Lacer’s photos highlight this, as well as the amazing OB nurses who help us do very basic things like walk, pee, and shower for the first time after giving birth. (Thank you, nurses, THANK YOU!)
If you know a new mom or even a seasoned mama who would love these beautiful photos, I hope you’ll share on Facebook and spread the postpartum and OB nurse love—and awareness that mamas go through some hard, messy things to bring life into this world, and that we need to celebrate and champion them for it!
