A Letter to 5-Year-Old Me Wearing Mom’s Wedding Dress

Don’t be ashamed of how frail you feel. Don’t hide your scars. Show them off. Let people see the weakness—the real and hard times. It’s in those times that they will be able to see the strength of God. They will see that it is not the strength of your body or of your mind that gets you through each day, but instead only by the strength that The Lord provides.

Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 12:10, “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

2. Many times you will feel like you are stuck in this detour.

That you are waiting in this hard place until you can get back to your “actual” life. But remember, little me, the road God has you on IS the main road. Not only is it the main road, but it is the perfect road for you. It was designed by The Lord with more love and higher plans than you could ever imagine for yourself.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares The Lord, plans to prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” —Jeremiah 29:11

3. Always be pursuing Jesus.

There are a thousand more things that I could tell you, but let me end with this, keep your eyes on Him. Cry out to Him when you feel like no one is listening. Run to Him when you feel like you cannot take another step. Praise Him in the storm, AND in the quiet. Make Him your shelter, your hiding place and your anchor.

He is your Lord, your comforter, your Strong Tower, your hope, your strength, your good Father, your Mighty Savior and your best friend, little one.

“Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in Heaven but you? And Earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart my fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.” —Psalm 73:23-26, 28.
