Strangers on Southwest Flight Throw Baby Shower for Couple Flying Home with Adopted Newborn

Welcoming a new baby is always a reason to celebrate, but that celebration was made even sweeter for first-time parents, Dustin and Caren Moore.

The California couple was traveling home on a Southwest flight with their adopted newborn daughter when they were treated to an impromptu baby shower.

Dustin shared the entire experience last week in a now-viral Twitter thread, in which he detailed the kindness shown to his family.

“It’s been a difficult week. But, rather than publicly air my grievances, I’d like to share w/ you the kindness strangers offered us the day we brought our daughter home,” he wrote. “I hope our story uplifts you, and reminds you there is goodness to be had in this world.”

On Nov. 8, 2019, the Moores were flying home to California from Colorado. After 9 years of trying to get pregnant, the couple were finally first-time parents.

“Parents who after 9 years of trying had been blessed with their first child,” he said, explaining the tender state of their emotions throughout the flight. “Parents who felt scared, but determined in their new role.”

When their daughter woke up mid-flight in need of a diaper change, Dustin said a flight attendant named Jenny cleared space toward the back of the plane to give them some privacy.

“After a change, Jenny and another passenger complimented my beautiful daughter and politely asked what had prompted a flight with such a young infant. I gave them the shortened adoption story, to which they hastily offered congratulations, and shared a few more kind remarks,” he wrote.

A few minutes later, another flight attendant named Bobby came by and asked about their daughter. Dustin again obliged and shared a few details of their adoption story.

“Then, we heard the intercom,” he wrote. “The attendant Bobby came on and announced a special guest on the flight. Our daughter. ‘She’s just been adopted by her parents Caren and Dustin, and is making her way home.'”

The entire cabin erupted in cheers and applause.

Then flight attendants Jenny and Bobby took things even a step further. They passed out napkins and pens, and asked passengers to write down any words of wisdom they may have for the new parents:

The flight attendants gathered more than 60 napkins total and bundled them together with a set of wings as a gift to the new parents. They have since arranged them beautifully in a scrapbook for their baby girl.

Dustin said he and his wife were blown away by the kindness of strangers.

They learned that Jenny and Bobby were married, and someone had done a similar thing for them on their flight to their honeymoon. After hearing of the Moores’ adoption story, the couple though it was the perfect opportunity to pay forward the kind act they had once been shown on an airplane.

“The outpouring of love from that flight, brought on by the actions of two thoughtfully observant flight attendants… it exceeds my ability to describe what it meant to us,” Dustin wrote. “How much those wings and written notes uplifted two new parents determined to love their new daughter.”

“This website is used oft as a means to share what’s wrong,” he concluded his thread of tweets. “I hope you’ll take time to share what is good. In a world of turmoil, don’t forget to showcase the Bobby’s and Jenny’s, the kind strangers out there.

And if they don’t cross your path, be one. Seek good, or create it.”
