In a video for the initiative, Tebow emotionally recounts the story of a young girl who was rescued by a team through the TTF. She was a beggar who wasn’t making enough money for her family. So her mom boiled her eye out to make her look even worse to those who saw her, with the hope that it would in turn, bring more money. When she failed to collect enough, her family sold her into slavery.
“That wasn’t done by this evil man that was trying to make a lot of money…it’s not like the movie, ‘Taken,’” he says. “This was done because a mom was on her own and she got caught up in a lot of bad things, and her child became worthless to her. She was willing to trade her child for a couple of dollars.”
He adds, “Not only was she willing to trade her, but she was willing to brutally traumatize her daughter…”
“It is estimated that as often as every two minutes – the same two minutes it probably took you to read this — a human being is bought or sold somewhere around the world, one life exchanged at the hands of another.”
Tebow says the Foundation is working hard to fight the war against human trafficking in three specific ways: By being proactive, by being reactive, and by being committed to building long-term relationships with survivors.
“Honestly, I don’t know if we’ll ever win the war against slavery in this lifetime. But I know Who wins one day. And until that day comes, we’ll keep fighting for the one more. They are the ones the Foundation stands up for – the ones who need faith, hope and love in their darkest hour.”
