Love Isn’t Always Sexy—Sometimes It’s Just Steady

My husband and I have never celebrated Valentine’s Day. We don’t exchange cards on our anniversary. I can’t remember what he got me for Christmas, not this year nor any.

But last week when an ice storm hit, he canceled every single one of his meetings to take care of our kids. He encouraged me to quit my job as a nurse because he believed in my talent as a writer. He’s loved my body at over 200 pounds and every single number in between.

We may not swing from chandeliers or swoon over each other on social media, but he never leaves a room without asking me what I need.

Love isn’t always sexy; sometimes it’s just steady. It’s unconditional support.

“Real, sane, mature love—the kind that pays the mortgage year after year and picks up the kids after school—is not based on infatuation but on affection and respect.”

Men, listen to me. Women would trade every box of chocolates in the world for a 10am text reminding them of their worth.

Love someone in the little moments.

Not just when a calendar tells you to.
