Dear Teenage Daughter: Keep These Friends

Keep the friends who defend you when you aren’t at the table to defend yourself.

Keep the friends who check on you when your Snapchats go unanswered.

Keep the friends who are quick to point out your strengths when all you can list are your flaws.

Keep the friends who tell you the hard things.

Keep the friends who don’t get mad easily.

Keep the friends who are quick to show up when you are in the mud and need help up. They might be laughing, but they’re there.

Keep the friends who gently turn you around when you are going the wrong way.

Keep the friends who cheer the loudest.

Keep the friends who cry when you cry.

Keep the friends who listen more than they talk.

Keep the friends who can keep secrets.

Keep the friends who forgive quickly and don’t hold grudges.

Keep the friends who light up when you walk into the room.

Keep those friends

and walk away from the rest.
