I Don’t Know What She Said, but I Know What I See

I don’t know what she said, but I know what I see:

A young man with a little boy spirit who is smitten with the girl of his dreams.

I see the same joy he felt when he learned how to write his name and play piano, skip stones and draw superheroes.

I see the same innocence as when he loved on turtles and toads, played make-believe, and mastered Legos.

I don’t know what she said, but I know what I see:

A grown-up boy who can’t wait to start a life with his bride-to-be.

I see the same amazement as when he learned how to ride a bike and throw a pitch, cast a line, and hit a three.

I see the same contentment as when he prayed the rosary with tiny fingers and treated everyone he met like family.

I don’t know what she said, but I know what I see:

A soon-to-be groom who has learned how to love a girl and make a life of his own.

I see the rich faith lingering beneath his skin as he now prays over a soulmate and dreams of a bright future in a world of unknowns.

I don’t know what she said, but I know what I see:

My firstborn son who will always be a precious little boy to me,

and a beautiful daughter-in-love who will shortly be the newest member of our family tree.
